Sony Xperia announced today about their latest software update on Sony Xperia 1 VI. The new software update has Wi-Fi 7 support. Wi-Fi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be, is the newest generation of wireless networking technology. It brings more improvements over previous versions like Wi-Fi 6 and 6E.
Wi-Fi 7 7 supports a maximum theoretical speed of up to 46Gbps, a significant jump from the 9.6Gbps of Wi-Fi 6. This speed increases with a combination of wider channel bandwidth, improved modulation techniques, and multi-link capabilities.
Wi-Fi 7 uses 320 MHz channels, which are twice as wide as the 160 MHz channels in
Wi-Fi 6. This improved performance in heavy tasks like streaming 8K videos or high-speed downloads. Further, the use of 4096-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) increases data density, 20% boost in data rates compared to Wi-Fi 6’s 1024-QAM, offering faster data speeds.
A major fact of Wi-Fi 7 is Multi-Link Operation, which enables the simultaneous use of multiple bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz). Allowing devices to switch between bands or use them together. Along with that Wi-Fi 7 brings a lower latency connection, best for gaming, video call and virtual reality applications.
