When Same thing happening all over again it got messed up. Because OnePlus again got banned from selling their smartphone in Germany. History tells us in 23 August 2022, OnePlus and its parent company Oppo phone were banned from sale in Germany due to patent dispute with Nokia. The ban was because of both companies failed to pay for using Nokia’s 5G technology.
Now it’s the similar issue about 5G technology and this time not with Nokia but with InterDigital, a company that holds key patents related to 5G and mobile technology. This dispute has led to a halt in sales of OnePlus smartphones through the company’s German online store. In spite of it, other OnePlus products, such as OnePlus Pad 2 and Buds Pro 3, are still available for purchase.
In this ongoing situation OnePlus released a statement affirmatively that they respect about the intellectual property and they discussing about the matter with InterDigital. OnePlus and its parent company Oppo also clear that their availability in other countries remain unaffected.
Consumer in Germany can still buy OnePlus smartphones through third-party retailers or neighboring countries while negotiations continue. Maybe this issue raises concern of the upcoming devices of the OnePlus. But before that the issue can be fix cause OnePlus 13 is on the way of release. For now, it is not clear yet that the Company can resume to sale their smartphone in the official Germany Store.
OnePlus places high value on intellectual property rights and fair access to standard essential patents, which is essential for driving innovation in the industry. We will continue to negotiate with InterDigital and wish to solve this matter in an amicable way. Meanwhile, our commitment in Europe remains unchanged and we will continue to provide excellent products and services to our users.
